Nemory

Swiss Institute of Memory · Zürich

Nemory preserves the memories of a life, gives them form, and keeps them in Switzerland for the generations that follow.

I · Thesis

Medicine is learning to give us more years. It has not learned to give us back the ones we have lived. Thousands of photographs we never open, voices we no longer hear, the summer that changed everything, now a thumbnail in a folder.

Nemory exists for that second task. We gather what a life has left behind, find the moments that mattered, and give them a form you can walk through, return to and pass on.

Do not drink from the spring of forgetting. Drink from the lake of Memory, the cold water flowing forth.
After the Orphic gold tablets, 4th century BC

II · Memoryspan

Healthspan

How long you live well.

Lifespan

How long you live.

Memoryspan

How much of your life you can still reach, enjoy and pass on.

Memoryspan is our word for the remembered life. It is not a medical measure, and we make no health claims.

III · Ritual

An archive is not uploaded. It is begun, in conversation, by someone who listens.

  1. 01

    The invitation

A gift from your children, or a personal introduction. The person whose life it is accepts in a short conversation, and owns the archive from that moment.

  2. 02

    The founding conversation

Two hours with your archivist, at home or in our salon in Zürich. A sealed letter records how you see your life today.

  3. 03

    The first chapter

Within seventy-two hours: thirty photographs, told in your own voice, delivered as the first page of your Atlas.

  4. 04

    The gathering

An insured courier collects albums, slides, letters and tapes. Everything is digitised in Switzerland and returned to you.

  5. 05

    The reveal

Your life, seen whole for the first time, unveiled with your family present. The printed Atlas, bound in linen, delivered by hand.

  6. 06

    Custody

An annual sitting, gentle recollections through the year, and Kleos: your instructions for what will be told of you, to whom, and when.

IV · Atlas

Not a feed, not a timeline. A topography of a life: regions of family, work, travel and friendship, where the moments that mattered rise like peaks. You walk it, approach a summer in 1974, and hear your own voice telling it.

Enter the demonstrationShown with a fictional life.

VII · Custody

Your archive lives on Swiss soil, in a vault of its own, under a key of its own. It outlives devices, platforms and, if it ever came to that, our company.

  • Swiss custody

Member data is stored and processed in Switzerland, encrypted per member.

  • Access by your grant

Archivists see only what you open to them, for as long as you allow. Every access is logged.

  • AI proposes, you decide

Our tools suggest chapters, names and places. Nothing is kept without your confirmation. Originals are never altered.

  • Kleos

From the Greek for what is heard of you. You decide what will be told of you, to whom, and when.
